Community Center Expansion and Renovation

Hallway view with new drinking fountain and water bottle filler

The expansion and renovation of the Community Center is near completion thanks to a generous Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $905,402. The kitchen has been expanded and relocated to the north side of the building. A new walk-in cooler and walk-in freezer have been installed. The dining room has been enlarged to accommodate more community members. The restrooms have been renovated and are now in compliance with Americans with Disabilities (ADA) requirements. The Community Center is the shelter-in-place for the town. The enlarged open space will allow us to better serve residents during emergencies.

The Town of Gila Bend thanks the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors for approving our grant submission.  We thank the members of the Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) who are appointed by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to provide recommendations for CDBG project funding and perform oversight of the Maricopa Urban County CDBG Program.  We also thank Maricopa County Human Services Department, Housing and Community Development Division, staff members: Bruce Liggett, Director; Rachel Milne, Assistant Director; and (recently-retired) Carl Morgan, Project Coordinator, for their guidance and support of this project. Our residents thank you all for making this beautiful, renovated space a reality for our small town!

We will be having a grand re-opening on August 17th, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Community Center. Light refreshments will be served.
